In the spring of 2021 I started a new series of abstract paintings initially based around the ideas I was exploring in my drawings. It didn't take long to begin to think of these paintings as topographical fields of colorful objects. Me and my partner Melanie Parke recently purchased a 20 acre old apple orchard and hours of time go by thinking about the lay of the land and the wildlife in the orchard.
These abstract paintings have been influenced by the orchard. I like to discover what shapes and colors seem to fit comfortablly as if they were objects in our field of apple trees. Then again maybe the paintings don't have anything to do with the land and apples trees. Maybe they have their own existence. I'll let you know.
